The Secretary of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change has announced that the “Reciclatón” program will be expanded in 2025 to include 12 dates, incorporating the Puerto Aventuras City Hall. This move underscores the Solidaridad government's commitment to environmental protection and promotes a culture of recycling and proper waste disposal.
The program, aimed at encouraging the collection and recycling of items such as cardboard, paper, PET plastic, obsolete electronic devices, and oils, will prevent urban solid waste from ending up in landfills. Xóchilt Moctezuma, the Director of Environmental Management and Climate Change, explained that the program will run throughout the year, with activities condensed into 12 sessions scheduled for the first Friday of each month.
Fourteen collection points will be strategically set up across the city. These will be located at the New Palace esplanade, the domes of the Monumento a la Madre park, and in the Colosio, Misión de las Flores, Guadalupana colonies, and at the Puerto Aventuras City Hall. Additional collection points will be set up in the parking lots of Centro Maya, Plaza Las Americas, Chedraui Villas del Sol, and Poliforum Sports Unit; La Ceiba and Leona Vicario parks, Super Aki Centro and Skate Park, in Puerto Aventuras.
Collection centers will operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., except for Plaza 28 de Julio, which will extend its hours until 4 p.m. A permanent collection site will be available next to the Public Services Secretariat's parking lot in Villamar 1, open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Moctezuma expressed optimism that the program will surpass the 468 tons of waste collected last year. She urged participants to facilitate the recycling process by bringing clean, separated, and bagged solid waste and opened tetra packs. However, she noted that certain materials, including ceramics, acrylics, wood, styrofoam, egg container packaging, broken glass, windows, mirrors, mattresses, sanitary waste, coffee capsules, food containers, disposable utensils, and various types of packaging, will not be accepted.
The program will also make it easier for Solidaridad business owners to obtain environmental manifests via a QR code, which will be sent to their registered email addresses. Companies can also deliver their waste to the permanent collection point and receive their corresponding manifest.
