On March 2nd, the Tajamar-Cancún boardwalk was bustling with over two thousand runners participating in the tenth annual International Women's Half Marathon. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa led the event and presented the awards. The winners of the primary 21-kilometer race were Nadia Izquierdo in the women's category and Bryan Rodríguez in the men's.
The marathon, which welcomed participants from around the globe, was held in honor of International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8. The event also aimed to encourage social interaction through sports.
In the main 21-kilometer race, Nadia Izquierdo took first place, followed by Mayra Castañeda and Rosa del Carmen Cruz. In the men's category, Bryan Rodríguez emerged victorious, with Luis Fernando Vázquez and Luis Fernando Herrera trailing behind.
In the 10-kilometer race, Andrea Tejero Fernández clinched the top spot in the women's category, with Sofía Núñez Osorio and Paulina coming in second and third respectively. The men's category was won by José Vera Avendaño.
The 5-kilometer women's race saw Xcaret Hernández as the winner. The second place resulted in a tie between Leonila Abelardo García and Jessica Acevedo, and third place was also a tie, between Amanda Ramírez and Jennifer Villa. José Manuel Alcocer won in the men's category.
Governor Lezama presented the awards to the winners, joined by honorary president of the DIF System, Verónica Lezama; Benito Juárez municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta; head of the Women's Secretariat (Semujeres), Esther Burgos; Northern Zone delegate of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (Codeq), Wilberth Flores; and Alejandro Luna, director of the Sports Institute in Benito Juárez.
