The "International Women's Half Marathon in Cancun" was officially announced on Monday, February 10. This event, which has been promoting sports tourism and female empowerment in Quintana Roo for a decade, has become a global benchmark since its inaugural run in 2016. Each year, the marathon attracts thousands of runners from all over the world. In this special edition, the International Women's Half Marathon will host two thousand athletes from more than 30 countries, positioning Cancun as the heart of a major athletic celebration.
Esther Burgos, the director of the State Secretariat of Women, emphasized the importance of this race as a symbol of women's values and their influence in sports. She said, "The Women's Half Marathon embodies the effort, discipline, and determination that define women in all areas. It's an event that inspires and motivates, proving that sport is a powerful tool for personal and community growth."
The International Women's Half Marathon in Cancun will offer three distances: 5, 10, and 21 kilometers, welcoming runners of all ages and abilities. The 5-kilometer race is open to all genders, while the 10 and 21-kilometer races are divided into the following age categories:
- Open: 18-29 years
- Sub-master: 30-39 years
- Master: 40-49 years
- Veterans: 50-59 years
- Veterans Plus: 60 years and above
A total of 60 prizes will be distributed among the 10 and 21-kilometer categories, with an additional six overall awards for the 5-kilometer winners. The race will start and finish at Malecón Tajamar, demonstrating the municipality's dedication to sport and sports tourism.
