Cancún's 55th anniversary celebrations began on April 1st and will continue throughout the month. The festivities are designed to foster unity among the community, various organizations, and sectors of society. This past weekend, several activities took place, including the "Sowing History: Time Capsule" project. This initiative aims to preserve the memories of the first generation of the School of Artistic Initiation in the city.

The celebrations began with a roundtable discussion titled "Quintana Roo: Voices of Its History". This event, organized by city chronicler Fernando Martí, focused on the political careers of local figures, the challenges they faced, and their significant contributions.

On April 4, Benito Juarez Mayor Ana Paty Peralta led the "Sowing History: Time Capsule" event at the Alfredo V. Bonfil Pinto elementary school. Here, students, teachers, and parents "planted" a time capsule containing testimonies, drawings, and significant objects for future generations. The Institute of Culture and the Arts Director, Carlos López, explained that a message was included to be delivered in 20 years.

As part of the celebrations, a commemorative tree was planted on Uxmal Avenue's central lane on April 5. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta explained that the tree, a ceiba, symbolizes life and hope. It stands as a symbol of strength and growth for future generations. The event was attended by pioneer Cancun residents, children, and local authorities. The day concluded with live music, cake cutting, and the traditional Mexican birthday song, celebrating over half a century of Cancún's history and growth.

On April 6, the Astri Cancún 2025 Triathlon took place. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa started the race, which saw over a thousand competitors from six countries participating. The race began at Langosta beach, with the finish line at the monumental flagpole.

The full schedule of events can be found on the Benito Juárez City Hall Facebook page @AytoCancun. The upcoming week's highlights include the revitalization of the Foundational Zone on April 7, and the second edition of Cancún World Fest from April 11 to April 13. Another Cancunense Walk is scheduled for April 13, and a talk titled "Quintana Roo: voices of its history" will be held on April 15. On April 18, a traditional flower offering will take place at the Pioneer Monument, followed by a dance festival from April 18 to April 20.
