The Ball Cheese Festival in Cancún experienced heavy rainfall on its final day, a result of the tropical depression "Sara". Despite the inclement weather, both locals and tourists were undeterred, turning out in numbers to savor the variety of products made with ball cheese.
Food exhibitors were prepared well before 4 pm, eager to serve attendees with dishes featuring this traditional ingredient. Despite the downpour, they remained under their awnings, ready to cater to the families who had come to the event at Palapas Park.
A tour around the festival revealed a plethora of stands offering a wide range of dishes, snacks, desserts, and even beverages, all featuring ball cheese. This cheese, popular in Northern European countries, has also gained regional fame due to its extensive use in dishes from the Yucatán Peninsula.
Attendees could enjoy a variety of delicacies, from traditional marquesitas, tacos, hamburgers, frappes, ice cream, empanadas, quesadillas, tamales, puff pastries, pastries, kibis, esquites to even rompope. All these were available to the Cancún public, who braved the continuous rainfall to enjoy the festival.
In addition to the festival, establishments along the popular Yachilán avenue also participated, offering enticing promotions in various restaurants for visitors. These establishments also featured dishes made with ball cheese, further enhancing the culinary experience.
