The Quintana Roo Youth Institute (IQJ), in partnership with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (SEMA) and various civil groups, is calling for community participation in the "Colillatón" cleanup brigade. This initiative is aimed at preserving and restoring ecosystems by tackling the environmental damage caused by cigarette butts and other litter in streets and on beaches.
The cleanup event is scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd at Playa Forum, located in Cancún's hotel district, and will begin at 07:30 hours. Volunteers will come together to collect waste items such as glass, plastic lids, cans, bottle caps, and cigarette butts. These will then be transported to a collection center for appropriate processing and recycling. Participants are advised to bring a cap or hat, sunscreen, and a thermos to ensure comfort and hydration throughout the day.
This cleanup effort is part of Youth Month activities, spearheaded by the IQJ to inspire young people to actively participate in environmental protection and work towards a more sustainable future. Beyond contributing to environmental health, the brigade also aims to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for natural spaces.
The IQJ will persist in promoting programs and activities that engage the youth in sustainable development, thereby ensuring a positive impact on communities and the safeguarding of the environment.
