The Ministry of Tourism of Quintana Roo (Sedetur) has announced that the annual investment of between 230 and 250 million pesos for the maintenance of Cancún's hotel area will be delayed until 2025. Key projects such as new treatment plants will also have to be postponed.
Sedetur is currently in the process of tendering to decide which company will be responsible for the works. Coveca has been operating in the area since last year. The handover process from the previous administration, managed by Fonatur, to the State has been lengthy and complex. However, the Trust is now formed and has a responsible person, Ricardo Archundia, who will oversee the entire process.
Despite an existing company already maintaining the region's primary tourist hub, a new tender will be launched in the coming days. This tender will select a company to manage the maintenance of the hotel zone, optimizing resources and ensuring complete transparency.
The tender for the maintenance and operation of Cancún's hotel zone will be launched as per the trust, which replaces Fonatur. Sedetur assures that the maintenance of the hotel zone is guaranteed. A study conducted last year outlines the needs of Mexico's main tourist destination, including daily care and aspects that require renewal, such as treatment plants. These aspects are included in the package and will need improvement.
