The municipal president of Benito Juarez, Ana Patricia Peralta de la Pena, has announced the launch of a new project, "Paseo Cancunense". This initiative, set to debut on Sunday, February 9, aims to foster community engagement and family interaction. The project involves linking Bonampak, Uxmal, and Nader avenues into one unified route, thereby reclaiming public spaces for the community.
The public is invited to participate in this weekend event. Attendees can bring their bicycles, inline skates, and skateboards, and even their pets. The event will feature local performances and a variety of local food offerings.
The municipal president has stated that this program will open up the streets for recreational and social activities. The goal is to establish an urban tradition that promotes sustainable urban development, enhances quality of life, and strengthens Cancun's social fabric.
The inaugural 'Paseo Cancunense' will take place on Sunday, February 9, from 7 am to noon. Future events are scheduled for March 30, May 18, July 13, August 31, October 12, and November 30.
Hector Sanchez Tirado, the director of the Institute of Urban Development Planning, has stated that this project supports active mobility and sustainability policies. It aims to have a positive impact in various areas, including promoting active mobility, reclaiming public spaces, fostering social and community cohesion, benefiting the environment, boosting the local economy and tourism, and building a civic culture.
The route will be approximately 3.5 kilometers long and is designed to be a safe and inclusive space. It is hoped that the route will be used by families, cyclists, pedestrians, and users of other non-motorized means of transportation. The route connects key areas of the city via strategic urban center avenues.
