Ranver, a company responsible for parking services at Plaza Las Americas, began charging fees despite not having the necessary permissions. A video circulating on social media shows customers paying at automated machines for their parking time while shopping at the plaza. The fees were imposed in the morning, prompting intervention from the Benito Juarez municipal government. The officials demanded Ranver to cease charging and lift the parking barriers.
Following the intervention, parking at Plaza Las Americas returned to being free of charge by midday. Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, the Secretary-General of the Municipality of Benito Juarez, stated in an interview that the fees were due to an "error" by the management. He confirmed that parking at Plaza Las Americas would remain free until Ranver can ensure quality service to its users.
This incident occurred a day after Ribbon announced that despite Ranver paying a 60,000 peso fine for operating without a license, they were still not allowed to charge for parking. He explained that for fees to be imposed, Ranver would need to present a plan ensuring the efficient operation of the payment machines and adequate staffing to assist customers. Until such improvements are made, parking at Plaza Las Americas will remain free of charge.
