The Dual Meet Kyorugui & TK5, a Tae Kwon Do event, recently took place at the "Andrés Quintana Roo" Taxi Drivers' Union in Cancún. The event saw an impressive turnout of around a hundred participants, ranging in age from 4 to 17. These young athletes hailed from various academies in Cancún, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen.
The academies that participated in the event included TKD Tierra Maya, Berserkers Cancún, Guerreros Aztecas Cancún, Fénix de Playa del Carmen, Taxistas TKD Cancún, and the Calderón Academy of Puerto Morelos. The event was held in the "Founders March 13" Auditorium located at the union headquarters.
Rubén Carrillo Buenfil, the general secretary of the "Andrés Quintana Roo" Taxi Drivers' Union, emphasized the importance of sports in their community. He stated, "Sports will always be one of the priorities in our administration. That's why we are here, promoting this Taekwondo Dual Meet."
Jaime Sebastián Calderón Romero, coach of the Taekwondo Academy at the Cancún Taxi Drivers' Union and coordinator of the event, echoed this sentiment. He expressed that such events aim to encourage the practice of sports among the youth.
The opening ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Yazmín Vivas Medina, the general secretary of the Taxi Drivers' Union of Puerto Morelos; Andrea González Loría, the representative of District 02; Manuel Rentería, the secretary of Sports of the Cancún Taxi Drivers' Union, and other special guests.
The event concluded with the awarding of medals to each participant. Special recognition was given to former national team member, Valentina Barrios Castañeda from Quintana Roo.
