In Quintana Roo, various associations and collectives are calling for increased attention to HIV. This comes in light of the "Community Leadership in Response to HIV: Experiences and Perspectives" forum, where the need for improved collaboration with public health institutions was stressed.
Leaders of several civil organizations emphasized the crucial role of authorities in partnering with civil society groups. This partnership is key in creating more effective programs for serving people living with HIV in Quintana Roo.
A major concern raised was the lack of early detection and the need for better promotion of antiretroviral programs. Achieving undetectability in patients was also cited as a significant goal. Despite some progress, there remains a deficit in providing dignified care for people with HIV, with Quintana Roo leading in terms of lack of detection.
The organizations are calling for a genuine commitment from the authorities. Quintana Roo has been at the top of the list for new HIV cases for the past eight years. The need for more comprehensive campaigns to reach a wider audience was stressed, along with the requirement for additional resources to detect hepatitis and other sexually transmitted diseases.
