Cozumel, Mexico — To provide additional leisure options during spring break, the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) announced the exceptional opening of the Chankanaab natural park on Sunday, April 20. The move aims to allow local, national, and international tourists to enjoy one of the island’s most iconic destinations.
This initiative is part of the New Agreement for Well-Being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, with the goal of boosting tourism activity and ensuring accessible recreational spaces for all.
Expanded Hours to Meet High Demand
Juanita Alonso Marrufo, Director General of the FPMC, explained that while Chankanaab typically operates from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., it will open this Sunday to accommodate the surge in visitors during the holiday season. The park offers outdoor activities, nature immersion, relaxation areas, and a unique experience in a protected natural environment.
In addition to Chankanaab, the FPMC emphasized that the Island Museum is open every Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while the San Gervasio Archaeological Zone Tourist Stop operates daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These options provide residents and visitors with a variety of cultural and ecological attractions.
Free Entry for Cozumel Residents
For Cozumel residents, admission to these tourist sites is free upon presentation of a valid FPMC membership card. Alonso reiterated that these measures reinforce the institution’s commitment to social well-being, the promotion of Cozumel’s natural and cultural heritage, and the creation of safe spaces for family recreation.
