Social Media Outcry Forces Civil Protection Response

Several ceiling panels fell from the top of a local convenience store and pharmacy, leading to the intervention of the municipal Civil Protection. The department suspended activities and installed seals at the Faro store, located on Júarez and Morelos avenues, not far from the municipal palace. The department only took action after the issue was highlighted on social media.

The store was permitted to continue operations, but with only one entrance open – the one furthest from the affected area. This decision brought relief to employees who feared job loss, but also raised suspicions among some citizens. The incident occurred early in the morning when employees found pieces of ceiling panels on the sidewalk that had fallen from the top of the tower, which gives the business its name. Despite the potential danger, the store opened its doors, cordoning off the sidewalk around the tower as a safety measure.

It remains unclear whether Faro employees or municipal personnel placed the preventive tape, given the store's proximity to the municipal palace and the fact that many officials regularly pass by. Concerned citizens took to social media to report the falling ceiling panels, claiming that tiles from the tower fall from a great height occasionally. The only action taken so far has been the placement of yellow tape for a few days, which then disappears as if nothing happened.

One individual posted a video on social media exposing the issue, stating that they had reported the falling tiles to four different directors of Civil Protection over the past two years. However, none of them had taken appropriate action. Following this public exposure, department personnel installed suspension of activity seals. Interestingly, these seals were placed on almost all the blinds, except for the entrance furthest from the tower, which remained open. This allowed Faro to continue serving its customers, presumably under some kind of agreement.
