Claims of medical negligence have been made against the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) number 18, located in Playa del Carmen. The allegations come after a local hotel worker, Dilver Rolando Méndez Gonzáles, slipped on his motorcycle and was reportedly given only painkillers at the clinic. He is now in a coma.
Méndez Gonzáles, a 31-year-old native of Chiapas, was on his way to work at the Secret Moxche Hotel when he lost control of his motorcycle near the Aurrerá warehouse supermarket. He was taken to the clinic where the emergency doctor diagnosed a fractured clavicle and stated that he needed emergency surgery. However, the clinic only prescribed him ketorolac and paracetamol.
The patient's family has reported that his condition has worsened at the IMSS clinic. They are now seeking support to transfer him to a hospital in either Cancún or Mérida for urgent treatment. The family alleges that the clinic is refusing to take responsibility for the situation, even claiming that they do not have a patient file for Méndez Gonzáles.
