Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the candidate for Morena, Verde, and PT, is projected to become Mexico's first female president. This historic event has been met with congratulations and well wishes from politicians across Quintana Roo, including Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
As of 10:10 a.m. on Monday, August 3, Sheinbaum Pardo had secured 29,626,471 votes (58.91%) according to the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP) of the National Electoral Institute (INE). Her closest competitors, Xóchitl Gálvez of PAN-PRI-PRD and Jorge Máynez of the Citizen Movement, received 12,124,91991 votes (28.08%) and 5,287,470 votes respectively.
Governor Lezama Espinosa celebrated the victory on social media, stating, "We have the First Woman President of Mexico! This is a historic moment for our country. Your victory is a win for all of us. It represents the dreams, hopes, and struggles of all the women in this country. We stand with you in your commitment to continue the legacy of social justice and the project of the Fourth Transformation."
Eugenio Segura, the projected senator for Quintana Roo, also expressed his support for Sheinbaum Pardo. He stated, “Mexico is living a historic moment: we will have the first woman President. Count on me to keep building the future. Long live Mexico! Long live Claudia, the most-voted-for leader in the history of our country! Long live the people of Mexico and its social democracy.”
Atenea Gómez Ricalde, the projected municipal president of Isla Mujeres, echoed these sentiments, posting, "Today is a historic day, for the first time in the history of Mexico we will have a woman as President of the Republic. Congratulations!"
Anahí González, another projected senator for Quintana Roo, also congratulated Sheinbaum Pardo on her social media. She wrote, "With great excitement and pride, I congratulate my friend Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum for her resounding success in the 2024 election.”
