The National Guard recently uncovered five packages, suspected to contain cocaine, concealed within the sargassum seaweed on various beaches in Quintana Roo. This discovery was made in the municipalities of Solidaridad and Tulum, where similar drug discoveries were made just a few weeks prior.
The first find was made at Maroma beach. National Guard officers, while on patrol to deter criminal activity, spotted four rectangular packages wrapped in blue plastic, nestled between the sand and seaweed. Each package was approximately 22 centimeters long, 14 wide, and four thick. Upon inspection, the packages were found to contain a white substance consistent with cocaine. The packages were secured and the area was cordoned off.
A fifth package was discovered at Área Arrecifal beach in Tulum. National Guard personnel found this package, which shared similar characteristics to the previous four, abandoned between the sand and sargassum. All five packages were handed over to the local Office of the Attorney General for further investigation.
In a related incident on August 28th, also in Quintana Roo, the National Guard and the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) conducted two operations in Cozumel, leading to the discovery of 20 additional cocaine packages.
National Guard agents patrolling Punta Morena beach discovered 12 rectangular packages, also wrapped in blue plastic and of similar dimensions to those found on Maroma and Área Arrecifal beaches, concealed among the sand and sargassum.
The second operation took place at Bosh beach, where personnel from both institutions uncovered eight packages with the same characteristics as those found at Punta Morena. These packages, like the others, were found abandoned among the sand and sargassum. The 20 packages were turned over to the Office of the Attorney General in the municipality of Solidaridad.
