The Mayan Train circuit is now complete, promising improved connections for both tourists and locals. This development is expected to ease traffic flow and simplify travel. The project, based in Playa del Carmen, has announced its completion date this week. Prior to this, the completion of connections in Cancun was requested, which have since been inaugurated by the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama. These connections are designed to facilitate tourists in disembarking and using the railway transport that travels throughout the southern region of the country.
Alongside the Mayan Train project, the commission is also focusing on regulating motor scooters, a form of transport that has surged in popularity recently. The goal is to ensure safety for both users and drivers, aiming to reduce accidents and road conflicts. Furthermore, the commission has announced that all existing cycle paths in the municipality will be assessed for their condition and functionality. The potential creation of new cycle paths is also being considered, as part of an initiative to encourage sustainable mobility options within the city. These projects are part of a broader plan to enhance urban mobility in Solidaridad, aligning infrastructure improvements with the current and future needs of the local population and visitors. However, logistical and planning challenges remain and need to be addressed to ensure the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.
The mobility project linking the station with downtown and the tourist area of Playa del Carmen is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. This was announced by Javier Renán Santos, the sixth councilor of Solidaridad and president of the Municipal Mobility Commission. Renán Santos emphasized that work tables have been established to analyze and select the best options for ensuring an efficient connection between these areas. The project aims to cater to the increasing demand for mobility in Playa del Carmen, a city that will serve as a crucial stop on the Mayan Train route, while also alleviating transport-related issues in the area.
