A construction site, known as H-10, situated in the Isla Blanca area of the Isla Mujeres municipality, experienced a devastating collapse on Wednesday. The initial count indicates that between four to five construction workers lost their lives, with over eight others suffering injuries. The injured workers were promptly transported to the Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital in Cancún for emergency medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that several people were trapped under the debris, with survivors hearing calls for help following the collapse. Despite the severity of the incident, private security personnel at the site reportedly tried to prevent authorities and emergency services from gaining access, thereby obstructing rescue operations. Furthermore, it was reported that workers were instructed not to use their phones or disclose the incident.

Firefighters and rescue units continue to work at the site, while the State Attorney General's Office and Civil Protection are investigating the cause of the collapse. They are also examining potential oversights regarding safety measures at the construction site. This incident has highlighted concerns about the enforcement of construction regulations, particularly in high-profile tourist developments such as this one.

As of now, the authorities have not released an official statement about who is responsible or the potential sanctions against those overseeing the construction. This tragic event underscores the ongoing issues with safety regulation enforcement, which has previously resulted in the loss of numerous workers' lives on infrastructure projects in the region. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the expectation that those responsible will face appropriate consequences.
