Construction has begun on the new Xiimbal Park in Cancun, with local children joining Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa and Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, the municipal president of Benito Juarez, to lay the first stone. The park, located in superblock 249, is set to serve over 10,600 local residents.
The park is being designed as a community hub, a place where children can play safely outdoors, parents can socialize, and older adults can stay active. The goal is to foster a sense of community and social peace, with everyone working together to maintain a healthy environment.
The park will be built on land provided by RUBA in 2018 and will feature green spaces, play areas, shaded spots, a multipurpose field, and a sports track. RUBA representatives and local authorities have publicly committed to opening the park on April 30th, in celebration of Children's Day. Municipal president Ana Paty Peralta has expressed her belief that the park will be a beautiful addition to the community, encouraging responsibility and enhancing the city's image.
Before the first stone was laid, Governor Mara Lezama shared a moment with the children present, giving them heart-shaped cookies for Valentine's Day. Together, they created a "Hands for Peace" tree on a wall, with each leaf signed by the Governor, the President, and the children. The wall also features hands engaged in various activities, symbolizing the future activities of the park.
The event included several activities such as a Table of Values led by SIPINNA, "Little Hands for Peace" led by the Auxiliary Police of SMSCyTBJ, a Drawing Table led by RUBA's Community Development, and a donation table of ornamental plants led by the Department of Ecology. Several key figures were present, including Nahielli Margarita Orozco Lozano, the municipal secretary of Ecology and Urban Development; Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, General Secretary of the City Council; Deputy Renan Sanchez Tajonar, and Karen Adriana Diaz Corto, a representative of the local residents.
