Cozumel Airport is set to undergo an expansion to accommodate larger planes from Europe. The airport's manager, Pablo Esteban Arjona, has confirmed that the runway maintenance work will be completed by the end of February 2025. This will mark the beginning of the airport's expansion project, which is expected to cost 150 million pesos (7.5 million dollars). The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027 or early 2028.
The expansion project includes a new building to increase the documentation area of the terminal. This is in anticipation of the expected rise in passenger traffic in the coming years. The expansion work is set to begin in the near future and will continue without disrupting passengers or operations. The project is expected to be completed by 2027 or 2028.
