In Cozumel, Quintana Roo, a crocodile was recently relocated from the public beach, Las Casitas, in a joint effort by the Civil Protection, Firefighters, and Lifeguards Department. The move was initiated to ensure the safety of beachgoers and the crocodile itself.
The reptile, estimated to be five years old and measuring 1.5 meters in length, was discovered by locals who promptly reported its presence. A specialized team, following wildlife handling protocols, safely captured the crocodile and relocated it to its natural habitat. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the staff of the Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC).
The relocation was conducted with utmost respect for wildlife, ensuring no harm came to the crocodile and preventing potential accidents involving beach visitors. The operation was reported to the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA).
The community commended the lifeguards involved in the operation – Omar Catzín, Jesús Pérez, Santos Guzmán, David Zapata, and César Tec, for their commitment to safety and environmental conservation on the island.
