The world's largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, has had to cancel its scheduled journey on September 28th due to issues with its propulsion system. This is an unexpected development for a ship that has been operational for less than a year. During its recent voyage, the ship was unable to maintain its usual speed. As a result, a detailed technical review has been initiated to ensure the vessel is functioning correctly before it resumes service.
To compensate for the inconvenience, Royal Caribbean is offering passengers a full refund using their original method of payment. Additionally, they are providing a credit for future cruises of equal value.
The canceled trip was set to tour the western Caribbean, with stops at popular destinations such as Roatán, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and the private island of CocoCay, all departing from Miami, Florida.
The Icon of the Seas, with a capacity of 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members, is one of the most advanced and largest vessels in the cruise industry. Despite this hiccup, the ship has operated without significant issues since its launch this year. Royal Caribbean has plans for the construction of new Icon class ships, with launch dates set for the coming years.
