Quintana Roo, Mexico — Three tourist destinations in southern Quintana Roo have been nominated for the prestigious “Lo Mejor de México” (The Best of Mexico) awards, an initiative by the magazine México Desconocido. The winners will be announced during the upcoming Tianguis Turístico event.
Recognized Destinations and Categories
Bacalar has earned two nominations: Ichkabal, a recently opened archaeological site, is in contention for “Best Archaeological Immersion Adventure,” while the city itself is nominated for “Best Health and Wellness Experience.” Mahahual has also been recognized, competing for “Best Beach to Discover in 2025.”
In total, destinations in the Mexican Caribbean have secured seven nominations across various categories, highlighting the region’s natural beauty, cultural richness, gastronomy, craftsmanship, hospitality, and biodiversity. Other nominations include:
- Quintana Roo – Best State for Road Trips
- Cozumel – Best Magic Town for a Family Getaway
- Maya Ka’an – Best Community Tourism Experience
- Holbox – Best Wildlife Encounter Experience

- Best City for a Wedding Destination

Voting and Award Ceremony
Winners will be determined through public voting, accessible via https://lomejormexico.com. The deadline for votes is Sunday, April 20, 2025.
The awards ceremony will take place during the Tianguis Turístico México 2025, scheduled from April 28 to May 1 in Baja California.
