Juan Antonio Dzul Cámara, the Deputy Director of Health in Cozumel, has confirmed that there are no confirmed cases of Monkeypox, also known as simian smallpox, on the island. Investigations are currently underway to confirm or dismiss two potential cases.

Two probable cases have been treated at the island's General Hospital. Patients are receiving preventive treatment and their symptoms are being closely monitored.

Cámara urges the public to maintain good hygiene practices to prevent the spread of the disease. Regular hand washing and the use of antibacterial gel are strongly recommended.

He also advises vigilance for symptoms such as high fever, severe muscle pain, glandular swelling, and the emergence of skin blisters. If any of these symptoms are observed, immediate medical consultation is advised.

In addition to these precautions, Cámara recommends adhering to safety measures similar to those implemented during the pandemic. This includes wearing face masks, using hand sanitizer, and washing hands regularly, particularly when attending large gatherings.
