The island of Cozumel has unanimously been approved by the Plenary College to continue its application to join the "Pueblos Mágicos" (Magical Towns) program. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government, states, and municipalities. The decision was made during the forty-first regular session of the Town Council.
Measures have been put in place to protect and conserve the island's cultural and natural heritage. These actions aim to showcase the preservation of Cozumel's unique identity and historical legacy.
Badih Sleme Flores, the island's tourism chief, highlighted the benefits of being named a 'Magical Town'. He said, "This title will provide us with access to an international promotional platform that has not been developed at this level before. It will enable us to solidify our place in the global cultural tourism trend."
Flores also pointed out that Cozumel possesses the history, culture, archaeology, and natural beauty required to join the program. He added, "We have the opportunity to make significant improvements to our destination. This will require the work and commitment of everyone, but it will also bring benefits and progress for our community."
Following the unanimous approval from the Town Council, the island will continue with the necessary procedures in collaboration with the State Ministry of Tourism. The aim is for Cozumel to achieve the coveted 'Magical Town' designation.
