Tragic Death of Cozumel Police Dog Sparks Controversy

"Jacob", a K9 certified dog from the Canine Unit of the Municipal Police in Cozumel, tragically lost his life recently. The prevailing high temperatures are believed to have severely impacted his health. Despite receiving veterinary care, Jacob sadly did not survive.

The Mayor of Cozumel attributed Jacob's death to a heat stroke. However, some police officers suggest that the dog may have been strangled due to his chain. The Municipal President dismissed these claims, asserting that the vet's diagnosis was heat stroke.

The President also mentioned that attempts to invest in the canine unit this year were unsuccessful. The land for the unit is borrowed from the local ejido, which means it's up to the next administration to find a new home for the unit and create better living conditions for the animals.

Just a few weeks ago, Jacob and his canine partner were certified and finally began active duty. They were primarily stationed in the tourist area opposite the Puerta Maya and SSA Mexico terminals, with their main task being drug detection.
