Felipe de la Cruz Salazar Pino, a 29-year-old municipal police officer from Cozumel, tragically lost his life in a road accident on the federal Tulum-Akumal highway, near Xel-Há park. The accident occurred around 6 pm on Saturday, while Officer Salazar Pino was spending his day off with friends.
According to initial reports, Salazar Pino was left alone by his friends. He was attempting to board a minibus to Playa del Carmen to return to the island when he was struck by a taxi union vehicle from Tulum headed towards Cancún.
The collision left Salazar Pino critically injured on the highway. Emergency medical services arrived quickly on the scene, providing immediate aid and transporting him to a private clinic in Playa del Carmen. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Salazar Pino succumbed to his injuries two hours later.
At the time of the accident, Salazar Pino was dressed in a black buttoned shirt with a white floral print and black beach shorts with green and yellow accents. He was also barefoot. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the police community and among his acquaintances, who are calling for a thorough investigation and justice.
