In a bid to regulate tax payments and rights in 2024, the government of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, launched a discount campaign called "Paying and saving we transform Cozumel" throughout December. The initiative is aimed at enhancing revenue collection and sparing residents from fines and surcharges on their debts. These benefits, which started on October 28, will conclude on December 31, 2024. This leaves just six days for residents of the Solidaridad municipality to settle their payments and regularize their financial status with the State.

The discounts include some related to property tax. Here's a rundown of the tax discounts available in Cozumel:

  • 50% discount on traffic fines payments, excluding serious offenses.
  • 100% exemption on surcharges for property tax and garbage collection rights.
  • 25% discount on processes for certificates of non-indebtedness for property tax, garbage rights, and municipal construction cooperation.
  • 40% discount on the rental of premises for individuals at Plaza del Sol, Municipal Market, and Poliforum.
  • 25% discount on processes for cadastral certificates, cadastral sketch processes, and change of owner processes.
  • 20% discount on construction licenses (only applies to residential houses), advertising processes, and letters of use of mourning or destination of land use (only for new properties).
  • 20% discount on certificates of ordinary risk rotation.
  • 10% discount on first aid courses.

These benefits will no longer be available from January 1.

To avail these benefits, residents need to visit the Municipal Palace of Cozumel, where the Treasury offices are located. The address is 13 Sur Street, Rafael E. Melgar avenue, 77604. The office is typically open from 8:00 to 15:00 every day. It's crucial for those interested in these discounts to act promptly. If residents fail to make payments with these discounts, they will be obliged to pay their debts in full from January 1. While similar campaigns may be launched in the future, taking advantage of these reductions can help avoid potential issues.
