Shocking Revelation: Corruption Scandal Rocks Cozumel Union

Ricaldo Reyes Marrufo, a former union delegate of the mototaxi drivers, has been accused of breach of trust and fraudulent administration. This announcement was made by Geny Canto Canto, national commissioner of the Transport Union of the CTM.

During a press conference, Canto Canto revealed that José Alberto Damián Pérez, coordinator of the mototaxi supervisors, and Gladis Cruz Cruz were also dismissed. Both are facing accusations of breach of trust. She stated that around 30 members and operators had approached the union on April 23, requesting an account of the union’s finances. In response, Marrufo was asked to prepare an income and expense report. However, Marrufo reportedly attempted to intimidate members and operators into withdrawing their request.

Canto Canto emphasized that transparency in financial matters is a fundamental obligation for any organization, especially for a fledgling one like theirs.

Despite being granted an extension, Marrufo only presented an incomplete report on May 7, during an extraordinary session called to discuss pay raises, dismissals, and financial accountability. Canto Canto explained that the report was unsatisfactory, with missing notes, a few presented receipts, and accounts that did not balance. As a result, a complaint was filed.

Canto Canto further detailed that the union is missing one million pesos from its funds, accumulated from August to the present day. This sum includes income fees and operator and owner fees. She also pointed out that some transfers were made improperly without a proper assignment agreement.

Consequently, Marrufo has been removed from the mototaxi administration and is now only an owner. Canto Canto warned the community about any business dealings that Marrufo may have initiated and clarified that no new members are being admitted to the union.

She also urged anyone who has engaged in any transfer promoted by Marrufo to contact the union, as these transactions were not conducted properly and could potentially cause issues with the regularization being carried out by Imoveqroo. Canto Canto stressed that they are taking the necessary steps to report these irregularities, as they cannot condone such behavior.

In a surprising twist, after these dismissals were announced, it was revealed that Marrufo and Pérez were found intoxicated at an illicit alcohol shop, with a parked mototaxi inside and wearing their distinctive uniforms.
