Cozumel Gets 8% VAT & Tax Incentives Boost

During the recent inauguration of sections 6 and 7 of the Maya Train, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum and Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced a new fiscal stimulus decree for Cozumel. Starting from January 1st, this decree will provide the island with a preferential Value Added Tax (VAT) rate of 8%. It will also offer tax credits on Income Tax (ISR) payments for both individuals and businesses operating in the area.

The primary aim of this initiative is to attract investment and stimulate job creation. It is also designed to encourage the establishment of new businesses, boost local consumption, and reduce unofficial economic activity.

In addition to this, the decree issued last April for Chetumal will be renewed. This will continue to promote the Chetumal free zone, providing a range of tax incentives in both foreign trade and federal taxes.

Governor Lezama Espinosa expressed that this is a "decisive step towards the profound transformation of Quintana Roo", emphasizing the importance of this new agreement for development and social justice.
