Cozumel, a popular island in the Mexican Caribbean, is preparing to host the third World Tourism Trends Summit. This forum aims to incorporate technology into the tourism industry. The event, scheduled for November 27 and 28, is primarily focused on making technology more user-friendly to boost the competitiveness of businesses in the industry.

During a press conference, Margarita Carbajal, the President of the Tourist Business Federation (Fetur), emphasized that effective use of technology could enhance business productivity by up to 30%. She encouraged tourism business owners to leverage these technological advancements to promote Mexican tourist destinations.

The summit is expected to attract 500 technology specialists who will showcase the advantages of technology in the tourism sector. The event is also projected to generate an economic impact of 11 million pesos for the region. Joan Passolas, an advisor for International Relations at Feture, underscored the need for the tourism industry to stay current, noting how technology has transformed the way airline tickets and hotel bookings are sold, primarily by companies without physical assets.

Bernardo Cueto, the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, also emphasized the strategic importance of Cozumel as the host of this event due to its significant role in tourism. The island welcomes one million visitors and five million cruise passengers each year, making it a crucial destination in the Mexican Caribbean. Cueto highlighted the extensive hotel availability in Quintana Roo, with 135 thousand rooms, in addition to those offered on digital platforms. He sees this forum as an opportunity to reevaluate tourism in Mexico and improve the competitiveness of their services.
