“Experience Cozumel Vivo Fest 2024 with Juanita Alonso!”

Cozumel, Quintana Roo. – The first edition of the “Cozumel Vivo Fest” was inaugurated by Municipal President Juanita Alonso Marrufo. This event, organized by the Cozumel Hotel Association (AHC), runs from July 18 to 21. The festival aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation through a diverse range of activities focused on sports, wellness, nature and sustainability, art and culture, and family and children.

Juanita Alonso expressed her gratitude for the invitation to this festival, which enhances the cultural attractions available to both tourists and locals. She praised the initiative, spearheaded by Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba, president of the Cozumel Hotel Association, and Alejandra Téllez Martínez, for their dedication to preserving the natural beauty of the island.

The Cozumel Vivo Fest is more than just a festival; it's a call to action. It encourages attendees to connect with both their physical and spiritual environments while promoting personal introspection. The festival's five themes provide a unique experience that brings families together and fosters a deeper connection with nature, culture, and tradition.

Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba, president of the AHC, thanked the mayor for her support in organizing the event. She also expressed gratitude to her team for their efforts in making the festival a reality. The event aims to increase community awareness and encourage residents to become stewards of the island, which has been a UNESCO MaB Biosphere Reserve since 2016.

The festival kicked off at Benito Juárez Park, where the opening ceremony featured the arrival of canoeists and a ceremony with elders of ancestral wisdom. The first day's activities included a ceremony of thanks to the Mayan deity “Ixchel,” a Tzunum dance, the opening of the art and gastronomy pavilion, and a concert of ancestral healing music by the Amazonian duo, Frankko and Dado.

The festival also included the reading of the Decalogue of the Responsible Visitor and Inhabitant, led by the director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Andrés Martínez Reynoso. This was followed by the unveiling of the commitment screen for responsible businesses. The festival will continue with activities such as 20k and 40k rides, beach cleanups, tours in Laguna Colombia, mangrove restoration, yoga master classes, sports encounters, canoe paddling, astronomical evenings, and artistic exhibitions at various venues including Chankanaab, Punta Sur, Island Museum, and local hotels.
