The sculpture of the goddess Ixchel, located in Benito Juarez Park in Cozumel, has become a site of harmonization following a Jets’lu’um ceremony. This ritual of energy unification was led by Mayan priest Aniceto Velázquez Chi and his team.

Before the ceremony, Badhi Sleme Flores, the Director of Tourism and Economic Development, explained that the aim has always been to make Cozumel stand out as a competitive destination. This involves promoting local cultural identity and sharing the unique experience of visiting the sculpture of the goddess Ixchel. Visitors are encouraged to pay tribute, make a wish, and experience the blessings of the goddess. This has become a significant cultural attraction in Cozumel.

The Jets’lu’um ceremony served to activate the energy of the Ixchel sculpture. It involved making offerings of colorful flowers, copal, incense, quartz, and honey. This ancient ritual is supported by the National Mexican Council of Indigenous Peoples and Communities of Quintana Roo State. Its purpose is to harmonize the sacred site and preserve indigenous traditions.

Carlos Francisco Pacheco Polanco, the national indigenous governor, emphasized the importance of such ceremonies in keeping indigenous customs alive. He noted that these rituals play a crucial role in unifying the diverse cultures of Mexico.
