Cancun – Crocodile attacks child by Cancun lagoon. Friday evening, the victim, a child visiting Cancun with his family was transported to the hospital to receive medical attention for his wounds. The attack occurred on the grounds of a resort in the Hotel Zone of Cancun at kilometer 21.5.

The event took place around 10:00pm in the evening at which time emergency services were alerted that a crocodile had attacked a minor child. Police and medical support services were immediately dispatched to the Hotel Club Med to confirm the report.

Preliminary reports indicate that the attack occurred when a family of Americans was carrying out an activity near the lagoon. At one point, the child was playing very close to the water, when suddenly the reptile lunged and grabbed him by the leg. Upon hearing his screams, the parents raced to his aid and successfully pulled him away before the reptile was able to drag him into the water.

Immediately, hotel staff and family members requested medical assistance and an ambulance transported the child to the Amerimed, a private Hospital in Cancun, where he is currently being treated for a leg injury. He is currently reported to be in stable condition.

Later, Civil Protection personnel entered the hotel complex to verify the facts of the incident, and to secure the area by moving the crocodile to a more distant area.
