Quintana Roo is bracing for the potential arrival of Cyclone Nine, which is expected to intensify in the coming hours. As a safety measure, shipping companies have decided to suspend their services on Monday and Tuesday. Furthermore, there will be no maritime transport across the state on Wednesday.
For instance, Winjet, a company that operates the route from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, will halt its services on Tuesday morning, the 24th. The last scheduled departure from the island is at 8:00 am.
Transcaribe, another shipping company operating on the same route, will also suspend its services, with the last crossing from the island set for 9:45 pm tonight.
Ultramar, the shipping company with the most frequent services to both Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, has announced that it will operate on Tuesday, but will cease all trips from Wednesday onwards. Its final journey to Playa del Carmen will depart from Cozumel at 9:00 am. However, its services from Puerto Juarez and Cancun's Hotel Zone to Isla Mujeres will continue as usual on Tuesday.
The companies have stated that they will provide updates on their services throughout Tuesday, based on the progression of the weather conditions. Xcaret Xailing, the newest shipping company in Quintana Roo, has announced that their last ferry services will be on Tuesday morning, with the Playa del Carmen-Cozumel crossing at 9:30 am and the Cancun-Isla Mujeres crossing at 10:00 am. All yacht and catamaran services are suspended.
Regarding the Holbox Express boats, it has been announced that from 3:00 pm on Tuesday the 24th, they will offer free services for the voluntary evacuation of those on the island. The Quintana Roo authorities will provide updates on the development of Cyclone Nine, which could potentially transform into Tropical Storm Helene. The shipping companies will announce when their operations will resume as per usual.
