A fatal accident occurred on the Playa del Carmen Tulum highway, resulting in one death and at least two injuries. The incident took place on the evening of May 3rd near Akumal.
A van from the Del Valle company, transporting hotel staff to Puerto Aventuras, was involved in the accident. The other vehicle, a truck, veered off the road and crashed into a perimeter wall, causing it to overturn. The truck driver tragically lost his life in the incident.
At least two other individuals were injured in the collision and were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by tailgating, as both vehicles were traveling in the same direction at the time of the incident. However, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office is conducting the investigation and will determine the specifics of the accident, as well as assign responsibility for the incident.
