The Secretary of Defense (Sedena) and leaders of the Mayan Train project have acknowledged the contamination of water bodies in the Maya Forest, according to environmentalists. This admission comes through the tender LA-07-H0M-007H0M001-N-6-2025, which is designed to identify, prevent, and mitigate potential impacts on the area's water resources.

Speleologist Guillermo DChristy believes this is an admission that no environmental studies were conducted prior to the start of construction. Although this may seem like a positive step, DChristy warns that the results of any subsequent studies will likely be kept confidential, with only the agencies involved having knowledge of the impacts on water currents.

"This could be seen as good news," DChristy said, "but essentially, it's an admission of what we've been cautioning against since construction began. No environmental studies of any kind were performed on the tracks."
