In the small town of Nuevo Campechito, in Carmen, Campeche, families of four missing fishermen are consumed by desperation and fear. The men went out to sea on August 11th and have not been heard from since, leaving their loved ones in a state of uncertainty. Patricia Acosta, the mother of one of the missing men, José Francisco de la Cruz, remains hopeful. "I refuse to feel defeated. I long to see my son return alive and we will not give up until we find them," she said with a voice full of sorrow but unwavering determination.
The missing men, José Francisco de la Cruz, 27, José Manuel Arias and his son José Luis Arias, and José Guadalupe Chablé, 23, set off from the dock of Nuevo Campechito towards the Cayo Arcas area, a region known for its abundant fishing. Since their departure, all attempts to communicate with them via radio have been met with silence. Juana Cruz, the mother and wife of José Manuel Arias and his son José Luis Arias, shares Patricia Acosta's distress. "They went out to fish on the 11th and we haven't heard anything since. We're extremely worried and we need the authorities to help us," she said.
In response, the Eleventh Naval Zone of the Port Captaincies and Maritime Affairs Unit has issued an emergency card and assured that a proper search has been initiated. However, the families are pleading for more extensive intervention, fearing that time is working against them in the search for their loved ones.
It's worth noting that the community is standing together in prayer and holding vigils, hoping for a miracle that will bring these four men back to their homes and families.
