Don’t Miss Mérida’s Spectacular Cheese, Honey & Wine Fest 2024

A variety of finger sandwiches, fresh fruits, cheeses, and breads neatly arranged on catering platters for an event.

This weekend, Mérida will host the second annual Cheese, Honey, and Wine Festival 2024. The event will run from Friday, August 30th through Sunday, September 1st. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Rotary Club of Mérida, with sponsorship provided by Yucatán Foodie. This year, the festival will spotlight local producers, featuring wines from five regional wineries. The event will be held at the Rotary Club of Mérida, located at 109 International Rotarism Avenue in the Itzimná neighborhood.

The festival aims to showcase a variety of artisanal honey products. "We have four speakers lined up, two focusing on beer production with honey and two on meads, including hibiscus and nance meads. We want our products to reflect the local region. There will also be sauces made with honey-derived products," said Alberto Lavalle, director of Yucatán Foodie.

The honey products will be sourced from a select group of Yucatán beekeepers. The wine selection will be cocktail-focused, with offerings categorized into white wine, sparkling wine, and clerico classes. Attendees can expect to enjoy mimosas made with white wine and sparkling wine mixed with orange, bitter orange, and chaya, incorporating elements of the local region.

The cheese offerings will range from traditional to exotic, including buffalo milk cheese. Unique pizza preparations, such as Poc Chuc pizza and marquesita pizza, will also be featured. To add to the festive atmosphere, local musicians will perform popular regional music throughout the event. The festival will run from 7 to 11 PM on Friday, 4 to 11 PM on Saturday, and 2 to 10 PM on Sunday.
