In the early hours of Sunday, a threatening banner linked to narcotics was found on the wall of the Mayan Culture House, situated at the intersection of Gama Street and Alfa in the Centro neighborhood. The authorities were alerted to the discovery through WhatsApp and promptly arrived at the scene to verify the report.
The banner contained a message accusing Josué Cárdenas Rosales, the commander of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), of involvement in alleged disappearances and violent incidents that took place in Cozumel in 2024. The message, purportedly signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), alluded to the disappearance of Arturo Gómez Ortiz in January 2024 and the murder of a minor on July 8th of the same year, suggesting the official's alleged involvement in these incidents.
After securing the area, law enforcement officers removed the banner and transported it to the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) for further analysis and necessary procedures. As of now, no one has been identified as responsible for the message, and no arrests have been reported. However, an investigation has been launched to determine the banner's origin and the context of the accusations made in the message.
This discovery comes just one day after a similar message was found in the same area, causing concern among residents and increasing demands for heightened security in the municipality. The State Attorney General's Office has yet to issue an official response regarding the threats against its commander in Tulum. It is anticipated that security operations will be intensified in the coming hours and updates on the investigation will be provided.
