Three people, including a child, were injured when a drunk driver struck them on Pavo Real Street in Playa del Carmen on Saturday night. The incident happened near the Villas del Sol subdivision, a busy area due to a local bus stop used by hotel buses.

At around 8 pm, the driver was traveling on Pavo Real Avenue, between CTM and Cigüeñas. According to witnesses, the driver first hit a parked red van before running into the pedestrians. The victims were forced to walk in the road due to open Aguakan registers obstructing the sidewalk.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the victims were a woman, a child, and a man who works as a fruit distributor. The man sustained head injuries.

After the incident, a mototaxi driver stopped the drunk driver from fleeing the scene. Police officers arrived shortly after, arresting the driver who had been detained by witnesses.

Local residents have called for a pedestrian crossing to be installed at this location due to the high volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. They also urged Aguakan to fix the open registers that have been a problem for years.

Private paramedics transported the injured to a local hospital, while the drunk driver was taken to public security detention cells.
