The acting head of the Directorate of Services and Trade on Public Roads, José Gamaliel Canto Cambranes, has announced that approximately 50 permits will be issued for street vendors during the Easter season. However, he noted that the final number could fluctuate based on the number of applications received.
In the coming days, interested vendors can visit the relevant office to complete the necessary paperwork and obtain the required permits and badges. The focus will be on vendors selling traditional Lenten products, such as religious items and food.
Cambranes clarified that permits will be available for areas like Las Palapas and the Center. However, he emphasized that it is strictly prohibited to grant permits for the Hotel Zone, as per existing regulations. In church areas, vendors will be positioned in the aisles or near entrances and temples to avoid disrupting Easter religious ceremonies.
Yendi Gabriela Martin Canche, the Director of Religious Affairs, reported that seven applications have already been received from churches for traffic support during processions or other outdoor activities during the celebrations. She noted that in previous years, between 10 and 13 requests for traffic and other types of support were made, suggesting that this year's numbers could be similar.
Churches wishing to request traffic support must submit a written application, including the procession route and a map to aid coordination, at least 15 business days in advance. The directorate will then coordinate with security, traffic, and civil protection authorities to ensure safety during the processions.
Canche also mentioned that, due to the high demand for services during this period, Civil Protection has trained church volunteers to provide emergency support if needed.
