Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The eighth edition of the International Women's Sportfishing Tournament La Diosa del Mar (The Goddess of the Sea) was officially presented, with expectations of drawing more than 30 vessels from Quintana Roo, other Mexican states, and abroad. The event is scheduled for July 11 and 12 at Puerto Morelos' recently renovated main pier, adjacent to the iconic leaning lighthouse.
High Participation Anticipated
Karla Luna, director of the tournament, stated that organizers anticipate strong participation from local, national, and international women who enjoy sportfishing.
"We are pleased to partner with Grupo Cantón and grateful to Don Miguel Cantón. For our event, it is a significant achievement to have the support of a socially responsible company," Luna said.
Prizes and Recognition
The first-place winner will receive 100,000 pesos, while the second and third places will be awarded 50,000 and 30,000 pesos, respectively. Additionally, trophies with spectacular designs will be presented to the top three finishers, along with other distinctions.
Luna also announced that the first-place winner will receive three passes to the Billfish Tournament held at Tropic Star Lodge in Panama, ranked among the top ten sportfishing destinations in the world.
Officials and Organizers Present
The media presentation was attended by Puerto Morelos' Tourism Director, Raúl Guadarrama, and the president of Cocineros por Quintana Roo, chef Marcy Bezaleel Pacheco.
Members of the organizing committee, including Mónica López, Elide Merigii, Cristell Acosta, Lupita Rodríguez, Nayelli Damián, Rosely Herrera, Diana León, and Dora Núñez, also expressed confidence in the event's success.
