Controversy Surrounding “Puerta al Mar” Pier Project in Quintana Roo

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has initiated a public consultation regarding the construction of a pier named "Puerta al Mar". This project is led by Alberto Campos Agüero, a member of a family previously involved in several environmental controversies in Yucatan.

According to the Ecological Gazette, the consultation process started on October 14. Semarnat has made the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project publicly accessible. This is to allow any interested parties to suggest additional mitigation and prevention measures, as well as to make any observations they may have.

The EIS for the project is available for review at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources representative office in Quintana Roo, located on Boulevard Kukulcán, km 4.8, in the hotel zone.

Interested individuals can also submit their comments or complaints online by entering the project key 23QR2024TD070 on the website: https://app.Semarnat.Gob.Mx/consultatramite/#/portal-consulta.

The Campos Aguero family has been embroiled in numerous scandals in Yucatan. They have been accused of privatizing beaches and irregularly obtaining environmental permits.
