The Strategic Projects Agency of Quintana Roo State (Agepro) is moving forward with two significant energy projects. One is set in Puerto Aventuras, Solidaridad, and the other is a preliminary project in Bacalar city.
According to official documents, Agepro has secured services for the development of a medium-voltage electric power supply project at the airport in Puerto Aventuras, Solidaridad. This project, costing 245,920 pesos, is being carried out by Impulso Eléctrico, a company based in the State of Yucatán. However, it is not currently listed among Agepro's prioritized investment projects.
Simultaneously, Agepro has contracted services for the preliminary planning of a Photovoltaic Energy Plant in Bacalar. This project, which costs 377,116 pesos, is being prepared by Comercializadora Industrial y de Servicios del Sureste, a company from Quintana Roo. Unlike the Solidaridad project, this one is included in Agepro's prioritized projects for 2024.
Agepro has highlighted the social, economic, and environmental need for these projects. Quintana Roo currently relies on fossil fuels for 93.9% of its electricity, most of which is produced in other states. However, the state's geographical location is ideal for solar energy, a renewable and inexhaustible resource.
Harnessing solar power could meet the electricity needs of various sectors, including government. It could also promote more autonomous energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions from public offices and buildings.
Both project documents were submitted to Agepro in the first half of September 2024.
