The Solidaridad Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat has announced a special security operation for the Day of the Dead celebrations. This operation, named "Faithful Deceased Operation 2024," aims to protect residents and tourists in the busiest areas of Playa del Carmen from October 30th to November 2nd.
The operation will focus on high-traffic areas such as the municipal cemetery, tourist parks, commercial zones, and the main entrances and exits to the municipality. The initiative is part of the Solidaridad Government's strategy, led by President Estefanía Mercado.
The operation will involve the Preventive Police, Tourist Police, Traffic Police, and the Social Proximity Police. These officers, both patrolling and on foot, will follow the directives of the Secretary of Citizen Security, Raúl Alberto Tassinari González. Their goal is to ensure that traditions are celebrated in a safe environment.
The operation's priorities include crime prevention, traffic regulation, and preventing road congestion due to an influx of visitors and vehicles. The police presence also aims to discourage inappropriate behavior and ensure societal norms are upheld in places where families gather to honor their deceased.
Secretary Tassinari González has urged the public to cooperate by respecting traffic signals, avoiding alcohol consumption in cemeteries and family areas, and refraining from driving under the influence. He also reminded the public that the 9-1-1 emergency number and the 089 number for anonymous reports are available.
Tassinari emphasized the importance of enjoying traditions in a safe and peaceful environment. He called on the community to support the authorities' efforts to maintain safety and respect during these celebrations.
