Cancun’s Hotel Zone currently boasts 75 Smart Monitoring Points (SMPs) to ensure safety. However, plans are underway to increase this number to further reinforce security. This news comes in the wake of a violent robbery on Kukulcán boulevard.

Carlos Ernesto D’amiano Sumuano, head of the Benito Juarez Citizen Security Secretariat, acknowledged that the existing monitoring points are more spread out than ideal for effective surveillance. He suggested that the points should be closer together, creating overlapping fields of view to prevent any blind spots.

In addition to the SMPs, hoteliers are also contributing to security efforts by installing cameras facing the sea. This measure aims to enhance safety along the coastline.

Sumuano also revealed that the Federation is developing its own strategy to bolster security in Cancun. He hinted at plans for the Ministry of the Navy to assign a battalion to Cancun, while the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard will deploy two companies in the coming weeks.
