The sixteenth edition of the Megacaminata saw over 300 canoeists participate in the traditional "Sacred Journey". This event is a celebration of the mystical connection between nature and humanity. Among the participants were 22 canoeists from Cozumel.

This year's event was particularly special, with women making up 47 percent of the participants. They took part in the reenactment of the Itzaes pilgrimage, an ancient ceremony honoring the goddess Ixchel.

The theme of the event was "The Water Wizards". The canoeists embarked on a 62.6 kilometer journey from the Dos Playas Bay of Xcaret to the cove of the Chankanaab park. The aim was to pay tribute to and honor the fertility goddess.

The courageous canoeists undertook this ancestral journey across the Caribbean Sea to the island of Cozumel. They set out to venerate the young moon goddess, IxChel, and Ixchebelyax, the elderly mother who weaves the destiny of men while pouring water on the earth.

Throughout their journey, the canoeists offered tributes to Ixchel, the deity associated with fertility, the moon, and childbirth. Upon reaching Cozumel, they presented offerings to the goddess, sought her advice and wisdom, and then made the return journey to bring the good news to their communities.
