Cozumel municipality is set to enhance its security measures with the introduction of facial recognition technology. This technology, already in use at major ports in the United States and Europe, will be installed at maritime terminals and ferries throughout Quintana Roo. The aim is to increase the comfort and security for all users of these facilities.

The state government, via the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo, has bolstered its technological capabilities and video surveillance systems. This includes the addition of security arches and closed-circuit television. Furthermore, the number of staff responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of these facilities has been increased.

Coordination with federal, state, and municipal authorities, as well as concessionaires, service providers, shipping companies, and the Navy, has also been strengthened. This information was shared during a tour of the San Miguel pier, led by the governor and accompanied by the general director of APIQROO, Vagner Elbiorn Vega.

During the tour, the governor inspected the security filters, which are equipped with metal detectors and X-ray machines. She emphasized that the presence of SEMAR and the backing of naval protection port units guarantee an efficient response to any security issues.
