Tragic Bus Collision Claims Driver’s Life: Chaos on Tulum Highway

A tragic accident occurred on the Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway this Sunday afternoon. A bus, en route to Chiapas, collided with an SUV carrying a foreign family. The driver of the SUV was killed in the accident, which took place around 1 pm on the 218th kilometer of federal highway 307.

Initial reports suggest that the SUV was attempting to enter the Kaan Luum lagoon facilities when it was struck by the bus. The force of the collision was so severe that the driver of the SUV died instantly. His wife and two children were injured in the crash and were immediately transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles ended up on the side of the road, just a few meters from the entrance to the Kaan Luum lagoon facilities. Fire Department personnel were quick to arrive at the scene, assisting the injured family members. Shortly after, military personnel arrived to secure the area.

The accident led to the closure of both lanes of federal highway 307 for about an hour, resulting in significant traffic congestion within the municipality of Tulum. The bus driver was taken into police custody following the incident. The body of the deceased driver was retrieved by the State Prosecutor's Office personnel and subsequently transferred to the forensic medical service.
